Zovia Warnings and Precautions
Prior to starting Zovia, warnings and precautions for the drug should be reviewed with your healthcare provider. For instance, Zovia can increase blood sugar levels and can make certain conditions worse, such as depression or gallbladder problems. Zovia warnings and precautions also apply to women who have certain health conditions, such as heart disease, a blood clotting disorder, or certain types of cancer.
Zovia: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?
You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Zovia® (ethynodiol diacetate/ethinyl estradiol) if you have:- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Chest pain
- Gallbladder disease
- Diabetes
- Depression
- Migraines or other severe headaches
- Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice) during a prior pregnancy or oral contraceptive use
- Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver tumors
- A clotting disorder or have ever had a blood clot
- A history of heart attack or stroke
- High cholesterol
- Cancer (or if you have had cancer in the past)
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding.
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:
- Have an upcoming surgery
- Smoke cigarettes
- Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
- Are breastfeeding.
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
