What Is Wymzya Fe Used For?

The primary use of Wymzya Fe is to prevent pregnancy. However, there are also some off-label (unapproved) uses, such as treating acne, PMDD, and PCOS. This birth control pill comes in the form of a chewable tablet, which may be beneficial for women who have problems swallowing pills. Wymzya Fe works by stopping ovulation, changing the lining of the uterus, and altering the cervical mucus.

An Overview of Uses for Wymzya Fe

Wymzya™ Fe (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol) is a chewable birth control pill that is available by prescription only. Because it is chewable, Wymzya Fe is particularly useful for women who have difficulty swallowing tablets. If you prefer, you can also swallow the tablets whole, instead of chewing them.

In addition to being easy to use and effective, Wymzya Fe offers the following benefits:

  • Less menstrual pain and cramping
  • Lighter menstrual bleeding
  • Regular, predictable menstrual periods
  • A lower risk of ovarian cancer or endometrial cancer (cancer of the lining of the uterus).

A variety of different birth control options are available today. Each particular method has its own advantages and disadvantages, and no one birth control method is right for all women. Wymzya Fe falls into the category of combined hormonal contraceptives, as it contains both an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (norethindrone).

Combined hormonal contraceptives may increase the risk for blood clots and other problems, and not all women should take them (see Precautions and Warnings With Wymzya Fe for more information). As with almost all methods of birth control, combined hormonal contraceptives must be used correctly and consistently.

In addition, Wymzya Fe does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). In many situations, it is advisable to use condoms in addition to Wymzya Fe to prevent the transmission of STDs.
