Wera Dosage

For preventing pregnancy, the Wera dosage is one tablet taken once a day, at the same time each day. This prescription birth control pill comes in a pack that contains 28 pills. It is important to take the pills consistently, as missing doses increases your risk of pregnancy. If you forget to take your pill, you may need to use a backup method of contraception.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Wera

It is important to take Wera™ (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol) exactly as directed. Although Wera is quite effective when taken as directed, taking it incorrectly increases the risk of unintentional pregnancy. As always, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

How to Start This Medication

When you take Wera for the first time, you can start it either on the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period starts. Starting on a Sunday may decrease the chance that you will have your periods on the weekends, although this is not always the case.

The big advantage of starting Wera on the first day of your period (a "day 1 start") is that you will not have to use any backup method of contraception, as you will be protected from pregnancy right away. If you choose a Sunday start, however, you will need to use a backup method of contraception, such as condoms, for the first week. If the first day of your period happens to be on a Sunday, treat this as a day 1 start (no backup needed).

If you choose a Sunday start, you will start every pack of Wera on Sundays. If you choose a day 1 start, you will start each pack on your initial start day; for example, if you first started Wera on a Friday, you will start every pack on a Friday.

Some healthcare providers may suggest other ways to start Wera, such as starting in the middle of the cycle. Make sure to follow your healthcare provider's instructions in these situations.
