Tri-Norinyl Drug Interactions

When you take certain medications (such as antibiotics, barbiturates, or seizure medications) while using Tri-Norinyl, drug interactions may occur. Some of these drug interactions may reduce the effectiveness of Tri-Norinyl and increase your risk of pregnancy, while others may cause certain side effects. To avoid these problems, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about potential interactions with Tri-Norinyl that may apply to you.

 

An Introduction to Tri-Norinyl Drug Interactions

Tri-Norinyl® (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol) can potentially interact with many other medicines. A number of these interactions can be quite severe and may even lead to accidental pregnancy. In these instances, a backup method of birth control may be required, in order to prevent pregnancy. If you do not know what to do about a Tri-Norinyl drug interaction, make sure to use a backup method of birth control until you can speak with your healthcare provider.
 
Some of the medicines that may lead to Tri-Norinyl interactions include:
 
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturates, including (but not limited to):

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®

 

  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Many seizure medications, such as:
