Velivet Oral Contraceptives

For many women, taking an oral contraceptive (birth control pill) is an effective and convenient way of preventing pregnancy. One of the many oral contraceptives on the market today is Velivet™ (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol). This prescription drug is a generic version of the birth control pill Cyclessa®.

Each package of Velivet contains 28 pills. There is only one standard dosage of this medication -- one pill per day, taken at the same time each day. This triphasic birth control pill has three different "phases" of pills in each pack, plus the last week of tablets with no active ingredients.

(Click Velivet for more information on this oral contraceptive. This article provides a more in-depth discussion, explaining how the medication works, what to expect while taking it, and what your healthcare provider needs to know before prescribing it.)
