Safyral Birth Control Information

SafyralTM (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol/levomefolate calcium) is one of the many oral contraceptives (birth control pills) on the market. However, it is different from most other types of birth control pills available.

In addition to containing hormones, Safyral provides folate, a B vitamin that helps prevent birth defects. If a woman becomes pregnant while taking Safyral or shortly after stopping it, the medication will provide the folate supplementation needed to help prevent birth defects.

Safyral comes in tablet form and is taken once a day. Although it is generally well tolerated, this form of birth control is not suitable for everyone. Before using Safyral, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on your medical history and a list of your current medications. In particular, let your healthcare provider know if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, or liver disease.

(Click Safyral for more information on this form of birth control, including how it works, possible side effects, generic availability, and other issues to discuss with your healthcare provider.)
