MetroGel-Vaginal Information

Available by prescription only, MetroGel-Vaginal® (metronidazole vaginal gel) is licensed to treat a certain condition in women called bacterial vaginosis, which occurs when certain bacteria disrupt the bacterial balance in the vagina. This medicine is inserted vaginally once or twice daily for five days.
 
MetroGel-Vaginal is a type of antibiotic and works by killing certain bacteria. This helps to restore vaginal "flora" (the bacteria that reside in the vagina) to a more normal and healthy balance.
 
Before starting treatment with MetroGel-Vaginal, make sure to review the safety information for this medication with your healthcare provider. For example, you may not be able to use this product if you have certain allergies, if you are taking certain other medications, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
