Marlissa Birth Control Information

Approved for use in women of reproductive age, MarlissaTM (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a combined oral contraceptive prescribed to prevent pregnancy. This generic version of Nordette® works by stopping ovulation, altering the lining of the uterus, and changing the cervical mucus.

Each package of Marlissa contains 28 pills. One pill is taken every day and at the same time each day. Missing doses or taking these pills inconsistently can increase your risk of an unintentional pregnancy. Side effects of this contraceptive include acne, headaches, and breast tenderness.

Because Marlissa may not be the best birth control option for all women, your healthcare provider will need information on your medical history and any medications you are taking. If you have a history of heart disease, blood clots, or depression, you may not be able to safely use this birth control pill.

(Click Marlissa for more information on this birth control pill, including other safety issues, who manufactures it, and what to do in cases of overdose.)
