Cyclafem Birth Control Information
CyclafemTM (norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol) is a combined hormonal contraceptive. This birth control pill is taken by mouth once a day, preferably at the same time each day. The hormones in this medication work to prevent pregnancy in a few different ways, primarily by stopping ovulation and making the uterus less receptive to an embryo.
Prior to taking this form of birth control, inform your healthcare provider about any medical conditions you have and any other medications you are taking, including nonprescription products and herbal supplements. St. John's wort, for example, is known to react with Cyclafem; in addition, women who have diabetes or high blood pressure may need to use a different type of contraception.
