Atazanavir sulfate (Reyataz®) is a medicine approved for the treatment of HIV/AIDS when it is given along with other medications as a "cocktail." It works by inhibiting part of the process the HIV virus needs in order to multiply.

Prior to beginning treatment with atazanavir sulfate, inform your healthcare provider about any other drugs you are taking, including nonprescription products and herbal supplements. Also, tell your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you have, such as diabetes, hemophilia, or kidney stones. This will help ensure the right medication is used in your particular situation.
