Solia Dosing

When starting birth control with Solia, dosing guidelines are the same for everyone. Solia comes in the form of a tablet that is taken once a day, at the same time each day. Each Solia package contains 28 pills, consisting of 21 active tablets and 7 inactive tablets. If you miss any Solia doses, it may be necessary to use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms).

 

Solia Dosing: An Introduction

Solia™ (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription birth control pill and is also a generic version of Desogen®. There is only one standard dose of Solia. As always, do not adjust your Solia dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so. Not taking Solia correctly increases the risk of unintentional pregnancy.

Solia Dosing for Birth Control

Starting at the beginning of the pack, take one tablet daily at the same time each day. Each pack will last for 28 days (four weeks). After you finish one pack, immediately start a new one the next day. Do not let any days go by between packs (this may take a little planning, as you will need a new pack on hand). The first 21 tablets contain the active ingredients. The last seven tablets do not contain any active ingredients. During this last week, your body gets a little break from the hormones, allowing you to have a period.
 
When you take Solia for the first time, you can either start it on the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period starts. It is thought that starting on Sunday may decrease the chance of having your periods on the weekends (although this is not always the case). If you start Solia on the first day of your period (a "day 1 start"), you do not need to use any backup contraception. If you choose a Sunday start, you need to use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms) for the first week. If the first day of your period happens to fall on a Sunday, treat this as a day 1 start (no backup needed).
