Drug Interactions With Solia

Certain medications may cause negative interactions if they are taken with Solia. Drug interactions with Solia may occur if the contraceptive is taken with antibiotics, barbiturates, or certain seizure medications, to name a few. Some of these interactions can decrease the effectiveness of Solia, increasing your risk of pregnancy. These interactions may also increase your risk of certain side effects.

 

An Introduction to Drug Interactions With Solia

Solia™ (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is an oral contraceptive and is a generic version of Desogen®. Solia can potentially interact with several other medicines. Many of these interactions can be severe enough to cause accidental pregnancy, and a backup method of birth control may be recommended to avoid pregnancy. Some of the medicines that may lead to Solia interactions include:
 

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®) 

 

  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Many seizure medications, such as:
