Skyla Side Effects

Serious Side Effects

Some Skyla side effects are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling, especially of the mouth, lips, or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Heavy, prolonged, or unusual vaginal bleeding
  • Unusual vaginal discharge
  • Lower abdominal (stomach) or pelvic pain
  • Pain during sex
  • Unexplained fever or chills
  • Severe pain or fever shortly after Skyla is placed
  • Fever, pain, or bleeding that lasts for longer than 30 minutes after Skyla is inserted
  • Severe headaches or migraine headaches
  • Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice)
  • Depression or low mood
  • A missed menstrual period
  • An inability to feel the Skyla threads.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to tell whether any particular problem, such as nausea, is caused by Skyla or other factors.
Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while using Skyla or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
