Dosing Information

There is only one recommended dose of Skyla, regardless of your age or weight. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Side Effects of Skyla

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Skyla. However, not everyone who uses the contraceptive will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
 
If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can be treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious reactions are less common.
 
Common side effects of Skyla include but are not limited to:
 
  • Vaginal infection
  • Acne
  • Cysts on the ovaries
  • Abdominal (stomach) pain
  • Menstrual changes.

Drug Interactions

At this time, it is unknown if Skyla interacts with other medicines (see Skyla Drug Interactions).
 

Important Information for Your Healthcare Provider

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to using this device if you have:
 
  • Ever had or currently have pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or another serious pelvic infection
  • Multiple sexual partners or if your partner has multiple sexual partners
  • A weakened immune system due to leukemia, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), IV drug use, or any other cause
  • Cancer of the uterus or cervix
 
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
   
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
