Avoiding Saquinavir Interactions

Certain Other Protease Inhibitors
Combining saquinavir with certain other protease inhibitors can increase or decrease the level of both medications in your blood. Check with your healthcare provider before taking saquinavir with one of these protease inhibitors.
 
Colchicine
Saquinavir may increase the level of colchicine in your blood. Your healthcare provider may need to lower your colchicine dosage while you are taking saquinavir.
  
Delavirdine
Delavirdine may increase the level of saquinavir in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Currently, it is not known if these two medications can safely be used together.
 
Dexamethasone
Dexamethasone can decrease the level of saquinavir in your blood. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these two medications.
 
Digoxin
Saquinavir may increase the level of digoxin in your blood, which may lead to serious side effects. Your healthcare provider should monitor the level of digoxin in your blood and adjust your digoxin dosage as necessary.
 
Efavirenz
Combining efavirenz with saquinavir can decrease the level of both medications in your blood. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these medications to prevent interactions from occurring.
 
Fluticasone or Combination Medications That Contain Fluticasone
Saquinavir may increase the level of fluticasone in your blood. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Garlic Capsules
Do not take garlic capsules if you are on saquinavir, because they can make saquinavir less effective.
