Other Drugs That Can Interact With Safyral

Atorvastatin
Atorvastatin may increase the level of Safyral in your blood, which may increase your risk of Safyral side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these drugs together.

Barbiturates
Barbiturates may cause your body to metabolize the hormones in Safyral too quickly, which could increase your risk of pregnancy. Ask your healthcare provider if you should use a different method of contraception while taking a barbiturate.

Certain Seizure Medications
Some seizure medications may cause your body to metabolize the hormones in Safyral too quickly, possibly increasing your risk of pregnancy. Ask your healthcare provider if you should use a different method of contraception while taking a seizure medication.

Cyclosporine
Safyral may increase the level of cyclosporine in your blood, possibly increasing the chance of side effects of cyclosporine. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. Your cyclosporine dosage may need to be reduced, or you may need to switch to a different method of contraception.

Heparin
Combining Safyral with heparin can increase the risk of high potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalemia). Your healthcare provider should regularly check your potassium levels if you are taking both of these medications.

Methotrexate
It is thought that the folate in Safyral may decrease the effectiveness of methotrexate for treating cancer. Folate does not seem to affect methotrexate for other uses, however, such as for rheumatoid arthritis. If you take methotrexate for cancer treatment, do not take Safyral without your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.

Modafinil (Provigil)
Modafinil can make Safyral less effective, possibly increasing your risk of pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider, as you may need to use a backup method of contraception.
