Pimtrea Dosage

There is only one standard Pimtrea dosage. Starting at the beginning of the pack (which contains 28 pills), take one tablet at the same time each day. It's important to take your pill at the same time each day, as missing doses may increase your risk for pregnancy. After you finish one pack, immediately start a new one the next day.

An Introduction to Your Pimtrea Dosage

Pimtrea™ (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription oral contraceptive and is a generic version of Mircette®. There is only one standard dose. As always, do not adjust this amount unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Starting Pimtrea

Starting at the beginning of the pack, take one tablet at the same time each day. Each pack will last for 28 days. After you finish one pack, immediately start a new one the next day. Do not let any days pass between packs. This may take a little planning, as you will need a new pack on hand, particularly if your pharmacy isn't open on the weekends.

The first 21 tablets contain the active ingredients. The next two tablets do not contain any active ingredients, and the last five tablets just contain ethinyl estradiol and no desogestrel. During this last week, your body gets a little break from the hormones, allowing you to have a period.

When you take Pimtrea for the first time, you can start on either the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period starts. If you start Pimtrea on the first day of your period (a "day 1 start"), you do not need to use any backup contraception. If you choose a Sunday start, you need to use a backup method of contraception, such as condoms, for the first week. If the first day of your period happens to fall on a Sunday, treat this as a day 1 start (no backup method of contraception needed).
