Drug Interactions With Pimtrea

If barbiturate medications, antibiotics, or seizure medications are taken with Pimtrea, drug interactions could occur. These potentially negative interactions may decrease the effectiveness of Pimtrea, increasing your risk of unintentional pregnancy. Other medicines that may cause adverse reactions include aminoglutethimide, modafinil, and aprepitant, just to name a few.

 

An Introduction to Pimtrea Interactions

Pimtrea™ (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol), which is a generic version of Mircette®, can potentially react with numerous other medicines. Many of these interactions can be severe enough to cause accidental pregnancy. Some of the drugs that may interact with Pimtrea include:
 
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Atorvastatin (Lipitor®) or combination medications that contain atorvastatin (Caduet®, Liptruzet™)
  • Barbiturate medications, such as:
    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)
