Precautions and Warnings With Orsythia

Orsythia can increase blood sugar levels, so women with diabetes may need to monitor their blood sugar levels more often while taking it. Warnings and precautions with Orsythia also apply to women with a history of heart attack, a clotting disorder, high blood pressure, and depression, among other things. Some women need a different form of contraception altogether.

What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:
 
  • Will be having surgery
  • Smoke cigarettes
  • Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding.
     
You should also be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
 
(Orsythia is equivalent to Alesse®, Aviane®, Falmina™, and Luterabirth control pills. The information in this article also applies to these medications.)
