Ogestrel Warnings and Precautions

Because certain people should not use Ogestrel, warnings and precautions for this birth control pill should be discussed with your healthcare provider. For example, you should not use it if you have heart disease, a blood clotting disorder, or liver disease. Ogestrel warnings and precautions also extend to women who have certain allergies and to those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Ogestrel: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Ogestrel^® (norgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) if you have:

High blood pressure (hypertension)
Chest pain
Gallbladder disease
Diabetes
Depression
Migraines or other severe headaches
A history of yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice) during a prior pregnancy or oral contraceptive use
Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver tumors
A clotting disorder or a history of blood clots
A heart valve problem
An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
A history of heart attack or stroke
High cholesterol
Cancer (or if you have had cancer in the past)
Unexplained vaginal bleeding.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Have an upcoming surgery
Smoke cigarettes
Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
Are breastfeeding.

Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
