Drug Interactions With Next Choice

Certain seizure medications, barbiturates, and antibiotics may theoretically react with Next Choice. Drug interactions such as these could cause the liver to break down Next Choice too quickly. However, it is not typically recommended for women to stop taking any medication while using Next Choice. If you have any concerns about possible negative reactions with this emergency contraceptive, contact your healthcare provider.

An Introduction to Next Choice Interactions

Next Choice® (levonorgestrel) may react with several other medicines. Some of the drugs that may lead to interactions with Next Choice include but are not limited to:
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturate medications, such as:
    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Primidone (Mysoline®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)
