Drug Interactions With Nevirapine

Certain medicines, such as methadone, protease inhibitors, and calcium channel blockers, may cause negative drug interactions with nevirapine. Interactions could increase or decrease the level of medications in your blood, which may reduce the drugs' effectiveness. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking any medicines to help prevent these negative interactions.

 

Nevirapine Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Nevirapine (Viramune®) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Nevirapine interactions include:
 

 

 

  • Certain antibiotics and antifungal medications, such as:

 

    • Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
    • Fluconazole (Diflucan®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Rifabutin (Mycobutin®)
    • Rifampin (Rifadin®)

 

 

    • Bromocriptine (Parlodel®)
    • Dihydroergotamine (Migranal®)
    • Ergotamine (Bellamine S®, Cafergot®, Ergomar®)
    • Pergolide (Permax®)

 

  • Fentanyl (Actiq®, Duragesic®, Fentora®)
  • Immune suppressing medications, including:

 

    • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
    • Sirolimus (Rapamune®)
    • Tacrolimus (Prograf®)
