Nelfinavir Side Effects: An Introduction
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with
nelfinavir mesylate (
Viracept®); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. When side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Side Effects of Nelfinavir to Report
There are a number of side effects with nelfinavir that you should report to your healthcare provider.
These include, but are not limited to:
- High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
- Any unusual bleeding or bruising
- Changes in the distribution of fat on your body (such as a "buffalo hump")
- Anxiety or depression
- Kidney stones
- Seizures
- Suicidal thoughts
- Signs of an allergic reaction, such as a rash, hives, itching, swelling of the mouth or throat, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.
