Drug Interactions With Nelfinavir

Certain medications, such as delavirdine, methadone, and fluticasone, can cause negative drug interactions with nelfinavir. These interactions can affect the drug levels in your blood, which could increase your risk for serious side effects or decrease the effectiveness of the medications. Other medicines that may cause negative nelfinavir interactions include oral contraceptives, ergot medications, erectile dysfunction medications, and other protease inhibitors.

 

Nelfinavir Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Nelfinavir mesylate (Viracept®) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to nelfinavir interactions include:
 
  • Certain antibiotics, such as:

 

 

  • Certain arrhythmia medications, including amiodarone (Cordarone®) and quinidine
     
  • Certain benzodiazepines, including:

 

 

 

 

  • Ergot medications, such as:

 

    • Bromocriptine (Parlodel®)
    • Dihydroergotamine (Migranal®)
    • Ergonovine
    • Ergotamine (Bellamine S®, Cafergot®, Ergomar®)
    • Methylergonovine (Methergine®)
    • Pergolide (Permax®)

 

  • Fluticasone (Flonase®, Flovent®, Veramyst®) or combination medications that contain fluticasone (Advair®)
  • Immune-suppressing medications, including:

 

    • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
    • Sirolimus (Rapamune®)
    • Tacrolimus (Prograf®)

 

  • Methadone (Dolophine®, Methadose®)
  • Nevirapine (Viramune®)
  • Other protease inhibitors, such as:

 

 

 

 

  • Seizure medications
  • Some statin medications, including:
