Mifeprex and Misoprostol

If Mifeprex® (mifepristone) has not successfully caused an abortion, a healthcare provider may prescribe misoprostol (Cytotec®). Misoprostol can be given two days after the Mifeprex dose, and works by causing the uterus to contract and push out the products of conception.

Approximately two weeks after taking Mifeprex, you will need to return to your healthcare provider's office. He or she will give you a physical exam or an ultrasound to make sure the abortion is complete. If you are still pregnant, your healthcare provider will talk to you about other options for ending your pregnancy.
