Provera®,
Depo-Provera®,
depo-subQ Provera 104®) is a medicine that comes in many different forms. The oral tablet form is usually taken by mouth once a day. The injectable forms are given every three months (when used to prevent pregnancy).
Oral medroxyprogesterone is available in the following strengths:
- Medroxyprogesterone 2.5 mg tablets
- Medroxyprogesterone 5 mg tablets
- Medroxyprogesterone 10 mg tablets.
Medroxyprogesterone tablets are used to treat irregular vaginal bleeding and to restore regular menstrual periods in women who have not had a period for several months. They are also used in combination with estrogen in postmenopausal women who have not had a hysterectomy; this is done to reduce the risk of
uterine cancer during
hormone replacement therapy (
HRT).
