Bleeding on Medroxyprogesterone

Common side effects of progestin hormones, such as medroxyprogesterone (Provera®, Depo-Provera®, depo-subQ Provera 104®), include irregular menstrual periods and vaginal bleeding, such as breakthrough bleeding or spotting. In some cases, a woman's period will stop altogether (this is called amenorrhea).
To help ensure your safety, let your healthcare provider know if you experience any abnormal vaginal bleeding while on medroxyprogesterone. This could include symptoms such as:
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Bleeding between periods
  • Bleeding after menopause while using this medication.
