STD Home > Drug Interactions With Tilia Fe

If certain drugs are taken with Tilia Fe, interactions may occur. These include selegiline, amobarbital, and cyclosporine, to name a few. Some of these interactions can make the birth control pill less effective, increasing your risk of pregnancy. To help ensure the effectiveness of Tilia Fe, tell your healthcare provider about any other medicines you are taking.

An Introduction to Tilia Fe Interactions

Tilia™ Fe (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol) can potentially interact with several other drugs. Many of these interactions are severe enough to lead to unintentional pregnancy. In such situations, a backup method of birth control, such as condoms, may be required. Some of the drugs that may lead to Tilia Fe interactions include:

  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturates, such as:

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

If you are not sure how to handle any particular drug interaction, it is wise to use a backup method of contraception until you can check with your healthcare provider.

(Tilia Fe is equivalent to Estrostep® Fe birth control pills. The information in this article also applies to Estrostep Fe.)
