STD Home > Loestrin Birth Control Pills

To prevent pregnancy, many women take a birth control pill such as Loestrin® (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol). In addition to preventing pregnancy, Loestrin offers the following benefits:

  • Regular, predictable menstrual periods
  • Lighter menstrual bleeding
  • Less menstrual pain
  • Decreased risk of ovarian or endometrial cancer (cancer of the lining of the uterus).

There is only one standard dosage of Loestrin -- one tablet a day, at the same time each day. Although most women tolerate it well, this product is not appropriate for everyone. Make sure your healthcare provider has complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before you start this birth control pill.
