This product is approved for use in women of reproductive age. This means that it is not approved for use in girls who have not had their first menstrual period. The device has not been studied in girls younger than 16 years old.
Off-Label ParaGard Uses
On occasion, a healthcare provider may recommend using ParaGard for something other than contraception. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, having a ParaGard inserted for emergency contraception (to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex) is an off-label use.
