You should contact a healthcare provider right away if you develop serious side effects of maraviroc, such as signs of an allergic reaction, depression, or liver damage. In most cases, however, side effects are minor and can be easily treated. Some of the more common maraviroc side effects include upper respiratory tract infections, coughing, and fever.
Side Effects of Maraviroc: An IntroductionAs with any medicine, side effects are possible with maraviroc (Selzentry™). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with maraviroc. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of maraviroc side effects with you.)
Side Effects of Maraviroc to ReportSome side effects with maraviroc, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
- Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin
- Dark urine
- Upper-right abdominal pain
- Changes in the distribution of fat on your body (such as a "buffalo hump")
- Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
- A rash
- Swelling of the mouth or throat
- Difficulty breathing.
Sometimes, liver damage with maraviroc occurs along with a rash or other signs of an allergic reaction. These cases usually occur about one month after the drug was first started. Therefore, skin rashes with this medication should be taken seriously, as they may signal potential liver damage.
