Loestrin is a type of birth control pill that comes in two different strengths. Your healthcare provider will select the Loestrin dosage that is right for you based on several factors, such as how you have responded to birth control pills in the past. Regardless of the dosage your doctor prescribes, it is important that you take your Loestrin dose at the same time each day.
Loestrin Dosage: An IntroductionThere are two different doses of Loestrin® (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol). As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so. Although Loestrin is effective when taken as directed, not taking it correctly greatly increases the risk of pregnancy.
(Loestrin is not the same as Loestrin® Fe or Loestrin® 24 Fe. The information in this article does not apply to either of these medications.)
Basic Loestrin Dosage InstructionsStarting at the beginning of the pack, take one tablet daily at the same time each day. Each pack will last for 21 days (three weeks). After you finish one pack, wait seven days before starting the next pack. During this last week, your body gets a little break from the hormones, allowing you to have a period. Sometimes, you may have breakthrough bleeding or spotting between periods. When this happens, keep taking Loestrin as usual.
Loestrin comes in two different strengths: Loestrin 1/20 (a lower dose of hormones) and Loestrin 1.5/30 (a slightly higher dose of hormones). Your healthcare provider will choose the best Loestrin dosage for you based on several factors, especially your response to other birth control pills in the past.
