Gianvi is a combined oral contraceptive, meaning it contains a combination of two different hormones (an estrogen and a progestin). This prescription birth control pill works to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, changing the cervical mucus, and altering the lining of the uterus. Common side effects include breast pain, headaches, and diarrhea. Gianvi is actually a generic version of Yaz.

What Is Gianvi?

Gianvi™ (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription oral contraceptive, also known as a birth control pill. It is approved for preventing pregnancy. It is also approved for treating acne and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Gianvi is a generic version of Yaz®.

Are There Side Effects?

Just like any medicine, Gianvi may cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses this contraceptive will experience problems. In fact, most women tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious reactions are less common.
