A generic version of Lybrel, Amethyst™ (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a type of birth control pill used to prevent pregnancy and, in some cases, treat conditions such as acne or premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). The oral contraceptive is taken once daily at the same time each day. Although generally well tolerated, side effects can occur. Common ones include headaches, breast tenderness, and spotting.
