Levonest Dosage

The standard dose of Levonest is the same for all women. This birth control pill is taken once a day, at the same time each day. Missing pills increases the risk of pregnancy, so it's very important to remember to take each pill at the right time. If you miss a pill, you may temporarily need to use a backup method of contraception.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Levonest

Levonest™ (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a generic version of Triphasil®. There is only one standard dose of Levonest. As always, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so. Although birth control pills are extremely effective when taken correctly, their effectiveness decreases significantly if you take them incorrectly.

Starting Levonest

When you take Levonest for the first time, you can start it either on the first day of your period (within 24 hours of the beginning of bleeding) or on the first Sunday after your period starts, even if you are still having your period. For many women, starting on Sunday may decrease the chance that you will have your periods on the weekends, although not all women find this to be the case.
If you start Levonest on the first day of your period (a "day 1 start"), you do not need any backup contraception. If you choose a Sunday start, you need to use a backup method of contraception, such as condoms, for a week. If the first day of your period happens to be on a Sunday, treat this as a day 1 start (no backup needed).
