Drug Interactions With Levonest

If you take Levonest with certain other drugs, interactions could occur. For example, protease inhibitors, antibiotics, and many seizure medications can all react with this birth control pill, which can change the way your body processes the medications. In many cases, these changes can increase your risk of pregnancy, so make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking.

An Introduction to Levonest Drug Interactions

Levonest™ (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a generic version of Triphasil®. It can potentially react with several other medicines. Many of these interactions can be severe enough to lead to unintentional pregnancy. In these instances, a backup method of birth control may be required.
If you do not know what to do about any particular drug interaction with Levonest, use a backup method of birth control until you can check with your healthcare provider, just to be safe.
Some of the drugs that may interact with Levonest include:
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturates, such as:
    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)
