To help ensure a safe and effective treatment process, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider beforehand about the warnings and precautions with Kariva. This birth control pill should be used cautiously in people who have heart problems, blood clots, or depression. You should not take Kariva if you are allergic to any components of the medicine, have heart disease, or have a blood clotting disorder.

Kariva® (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription birth control pill and is also a generic version of Mircette®. You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Kariva if you have:

  • Have an upcoming surgery
  • Smoke cigarettes
  • Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding.

You should also tell your healthcare provider about any other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
