Drug Interactions With Kariva

Before taking Kariva, make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking. Drug interactions with Kariva may occur if the birth control pill is taken with certain medications, such as antibiotics, barbiturates, and some seizure medications. Some of these negative interactions can decrease the effectiveness of Kariva, increasing your risk of pregnancy.

 

An Introduction to Drug Interactions With Kariva

Kariva® (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol), which is a generic version of Mircette®, can potentially interact with numerous other medicines. Many of these interactions can be severe enough to cause accidental pregnancy. Some of the medicines that may lead to Kariva interactions include:
 

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Many seizure medications, such as:
