Drug Interactions With Fosamprenavir

There are a number of medicines that may cause drug interactions with fosamprenavir, including tricyclic antidepressants, calcium channel blockers, hormonal contraceptives, and other protease inhibitors. These potentially negative interactions can lead to dangerous side effects or reduce the effectiveness of the medicines. To avoid drug interactions with fosamprenavir, tell your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.

 

Drug Interactions With Fosamprenavir: An Introduction

Fosamprenavir calcium (Lexiva®) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to fosamprenavir interactions include:
 
  • Arrhythmia medications
  • Certain antibiotics and antifungal medications, such as:
 
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Rifabutin (Mycobutin®)
    • Rifampin (Rifadin®)
 
  • Certain benzodiazepines, such as:
 
 
 
 
 
 
  • Ergot medications, such as:
 
    • Bromocriptine (Parlodel®)
    • Dihydroergotamine (Migranal®)
    • Ergonovine
    • Ergotamine (Bellamine S®, Cafergot®, Ergomar®)
    • Methylergonovine (Methergine®)
    • Pergolide (Permax®)
 
 
    • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
    • Sirolimus (Rapamune®)
    • Tacrolimus (Prograf®)
 
 
 
  • Methadone (Dolophine®, Methadose®)
  • Nevirapine (Viramune®)
  • Other protease inhibitors, such as:
 
 
 
 
 
 
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
