Emtricitabine

A healthcare provider may prescribe emtricitabine along with other medications to treat HIV and AIDS. This drug is not a cure for HIV and AIDS, but it can help prevent the virus from multiplying. It comes in the form of a capsule and as an oral solution. The dose your healthcare provider prescribes will be based on factors such as your age, weight, and other medications you may be taking.

What Is Emtricitabine?

Emtricitabine (Emtriva®) is a prescription medication used for the treatment of AIDS and HIV. It is approved for use only in combination with other HIV medications.

Possible Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with emtricitabine.
 However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
