In general, emtricitabine should not be taken with medications that contain lamivudine, as emtricitabine and lamivudine are very similar medications.
 
Other Emtricitabine Medications
In general, emtricitabine should not be combined with other medications that contain emtricitabine. Check with your healthcare provider before taking emtricitabine with other medications that contain emtricitabine.
 
Ribavirin (Copegus, Rebetol, Ribasphere, Virazole)
Combining ribavirin with emtricitabine can increase the risk of serious side effects. In general, this combination of medications should be avoided if possible.
 
Valganciclovir (Valcyte)
Combining valganciclovir with emtricitabine may increase your risk of emtricitabine side effects, particularly the side effects that affect blood cells. Your healthcare provider may need to closely monitor your blood counts.
