Drug Interactions With Emoquette

If Amytal, Lipitor, Emend, or other products are taken with Emoquette, drug interactions could occur that may increase your risk for pregnancy or change how your body metabolizes the other medications. To avoid potential complications, tell your healthcare provider about any other products you are taking -- including herbal supplements -- before using this birth control pill.

An Introduction to Emoquette Drug Interactions

The
oral contraceptive Emoquette™ (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a generic version of Desogen® and Ortho-Cept®. Emoquette can potentially interact with several other drugs. Many of these interactions can be severe enough to cause accidental pregnancy, and a backup method of birth control may be recommended to avoid this. Some of the medicines that may lead to interactions with Emoquette include:

  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Atorvastatin (Lipitor®)
  • Barbiturate medications, such as:

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

(Emoquette is equivalent to Desogen®, Ortho-Cept®, Apri®, Solia™, and Reclipsen™. The information in this article also applies to each of these birth control pills.)
