Drug Interactions With Elinest

Before starting birth control with Elinest, talk to your healthcare provider about all other medicines, vitamins, and supplements you are taking. There are a number of drug interactions that can occur when Elinest is combined with certain products, including St. John's wort, some antibiotics, and barbiturates. Some of these reactions may increase your risk for side effects or can lead to unintentional pregnancy.

 

An Introduction to Interactions With Elinest

Elinest™ (norgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) may react with a number of other products. Some of these interactions can be significant enough to lead to unintentional pregnancy, and a backup method of birth control, such as condoms, may be recommended in many cases.
 
Some of the drugs that can interact with Elinest include but are not limited to:
 
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturates, such as:
 
    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Primidone (Mysoline®)
