Efavirenz, Emtricitabine, and Tenofovir

Efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir is a combination medicine that is commonly used for the treatment of HIV and AIDS. It contains drugs from three different classes of HIV medications and can either be used alone or as part of an HIV "cocktail." While most people tolerate efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir well, potential side effects of the medicine include headaches, fatigue, diarrhea, and dizziness.

What Is Efavirenz, Emtricitabine, and Tenofovir?

Efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (Atripla™) is a prescription medication used as a treatment for HIV and AIDS. It is approved for use alone or in combination with other HIV medications. The medication, as the name implies, contains three different HIV drugs:

Efavirenz, Emtricitabine, and Tenofovir Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
