Will My Medicines Interact With Efavirenz, Emtricitabine, and Tenofovir?

Raltegravir
Combining raltegravir with efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir may decrease the levels of raltegravir in the blood, perhaps making it less effective. It is not yet known how best to handle this interaction. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these medications.
 
Ribavirin
Combining ribavirin with efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir can increase the risk of serious side effects. In general, this combination of medications should be avoided, if possible.
 
Sertraline
Efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir can decrease the level of sertraline in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your sertraline dosage as a result.
 
Some Statin Medications
Efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir can decrease the level of certain statin medications in your blood, perhaps making them less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase the dose of your statin medication to prevent this.
 
St. John's Wort
Because St. John's wort can greatly reduce the level of efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir in your blood, these substances should never be taken together.
 
Valacyclovir
Valacyclovir may interfere with the kidneys' ability to remove efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir from the blood. This could lead to increased blood levels of efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir and increased risk of side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Valganciclovir
Valganciclovir may interfere with the kidneys' ability to remove efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir from the blood.
