Depo-Provera® (medroxyprogesterone intramuscular injection) is a prescription drug approved for preventing pregnancy. It can also be used to relieve symptoms caused by endometrial and kidney cancer.
 
Depo-Provera is a synthetic form of progesterone that is injected into a muscle. Possible side effects may include irregular menstrual periods, headaches, and weight gain. You should talk to your healthcare provider before receiving this medication if you think you might be pregnant, have depression, or have a history of breast cancer.
