Depo-Provera and Weight Gain

If you are using Depo-Provera® (medroxyprogesterone intramuscular injection), be aware that weight gain is a possible side effect of the drug. This prescription medication is approved for pregnancy prevention and for relieving symptoms of kidney and endometrial cancer.
 
In clinical studies, up to 37.7 percent of people noticed weight gain while using Depo-Provera. These studies also showed that two-thirds of women gained at least five pounds in the first year of use. The average weight gain was eight pounds after two years of use.
