Drugs That React With Delavirdine

Delavirdine Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when delavirdine is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Delavirdine can increase the level of amphetamines in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Antacids or Acid Reducers
Stomach acid is necessary for delavirdine to be absorbed into the body. Antacids or acid reducers may decrease the absorption of delavirdine, making it less effective. Talk with your healthcare provider before combining delavirdine with an antacid or an acid-reducing medication.
Certain Arrhythmia Medications
Delavirdine can increase the level of some arrhythmia medications in the blood, possibly increasing the risk of dangerous side effects. If you take delavirdine with one of these arrhythmia medications, your healthcare provider will need to monitor you more closely.
Certain Benzodiazepines
Delavirdine should never be combined with alprazolam, midazolam, or triazolam due to the risk of life-threatening reactions.
Certain Seizure Medications
Taking delavirdine with certain seizure medications can make delavirdine less effective. Delavirdine should not be used with these medications.
Calcium Channel Blockers
Delavirdine can increase the level of calcium channel blockers in the blood, potentially increasing the risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to lower the dose of your calcium channel blocker to prevent this interaction from occurring.
Delavirdine may increase the level of clarithromycin in your blood. Your healthcare provider may recommend a lower clarithromycin dosage to prevent this.
