Darunavir

Darunavir is an HIV medication that is often prescribed in combination with ritonavir. While it is not a cure for HIV or AIDS, the drug can help stop HIV from multiplying and spreading to uninfected cells in the body. Darunavir comes in tablet form and is generally taken twice a day. Side effects include vomiting, high cholesterol, and diarrhea.

What Is Darunavir?

Darunavir ethanolate (Prezista™) is a prescription medicine used as a treatment for HIV and AIDS. It should always be combined with ritonavir (Norvir^®), another medication that makes darunavir work better. Darunavir is only approved for use with ritonavir plus other HIV or AIDS medications (it is not approved to be used alone).

Darunavir Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with darunavir. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
