Drug Interactions With Cyclafem

Because various drugs can interact with Cyclafem, possibly increasing your chance of pregnancy, it is important to tell your healthcare provider about any other medicines you are taking -- including herbal supplements. Antibiotics, barbiturates, and seizure medications, for example, can all interfere with this birth control pill. You may need to use a backup method of birth control in such cases.

An Overview of Cyclafem Interactions

Cyclafem™ (norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Many of these interactions can lead to accidental pregnancy, and a backup method of birth control may be recommended in some situations.
Because many drugs interact with Cyclafem, you should make sure that all of your healthcare providers know you are taking it. Any time you start a new medication, check with your healthcare provider about possible Cyclafem drug interactions. Some of the medicines that may lead to adverse reactions include:
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturate medications, such as:
    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
